| A native of Winnipeg,
Manitoba, Justina McCaffrey has become a household name in the North
American bridal market.
A self-proclaimed workaholic, Justina graduated from the Fashion
Institute of Los Angeles in 1985, where she received two international
design awards. As an apprentice at Bianca Nygard International and
Pat McDonagh International, she gained experience in the fashion
industry, but was still unsure whether to pursue a career in fashion,
or to begin considering a career in law or business.
After her own wedding in 1989 to David McCaffrey, a fellow Winnipeg
native whom she met at the age of 6, her vocation became clear.
Friends and relatives were impressed with the wedding dress, that
Justina designed and made for herself. Chicken wire served as a
crinoline with 250hand made silk rosettes following the shape of
a heart on the back of the voluminous skirt. Soon she had design
requests from friends and acquaintances for their wedding dresses
and the business took off.
